Tribal Crafts & Marie Dion UNITE!

Tribal Crafts was incorporated as a non-profit 501 c 3 in 1987 through the hard work and love of two amazing women, its founders, Karin Kiem and Ginny Speirs. It was born through a friendship between Connecticut residents at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme and the Green Grass community on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. Together, the groups wanted to find ways to help bring income to that small community. They decided that bringing art back to New England for sale would not only provide that income, but would also contribute to keeping a beautiful culture alive and flourishing, sharing it with a broader audience.

Since 1987, the Tribal Crafts mission has remained the same, to lift up and encourage the making of traditional crafts for which the Lakota people are known, while simultaneously fulfilling the need for everyday survival. Through-out the years, Tribal Crafts has formed many friendships with talented artists and has been witness to their incredible stories of struggle, heartache and hope. They have participated in ceremony, stood along-side friends at Standing Rock and together, have nurtured this mutually beneficial relationship for years.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this special edition of “Journey of a Red Soul” will be donated to Tribal Crafts, Inc. Funds raised will be used to help foster a bridge between grandmothers, mothers and their children using traditional art as a conduit, giving them opportunity, and helping to empower women in their lives and make a better life for their children. Healing the past, and for a brighter future for all.

Praise for Journey of a Red Soul

A Journey Everyone Should Take — In Journey of a Red Soul, author Marie Dion has crafted not only a gripping and heartfelt memoir of her personal experiences, but also a book that, through her personal journey of discovery, offers readers new perspective on the events of their own lives and imparts powerful messages about cultural identity, race, global politics, spirituality, and the central role that each of us plays in shaping our own future and the future of the world. By sharing the story of her unique ability to remember past life experiences, Marie is able to show us the elements of human experience that are universal and illustrate for us how this interconnectedness is our ultimate empowerment and source of strength. This is a must read for everyone, not only as a singular message of hope in a troubled world, but as an extraordinary moment of teaching that impresses on us the importance of shaping our own spirituality and cultivating empathy for others as the necessary means to overcome what divides us from each other and threatens us, both individually and collectively.” — Joseph E

Beautiful and Compassionate — This is a beautifully written book — an autobiography of a woman with Native American roots who was brought up a Catholic. The challenges she faces as she learns how to trust Spirit to guide her and how she heals the wounds of her ancestors. This fabulous book is written with such heart and compassion as Marie Dion describes her faith in Jesus and her faith in Spirit coming together to enable her to understand why she is here and what she is her to do. Marie Dion asks many questions and she waits for a sign to show her the answer. I highly recommend this book for those who are intuitive, have an affinity with nature and are curious about life, or if you are simply looking for a more peaceful way of being.” — Lucy in the UK

“Our country needs to heal its past with the First People for us all to prosper… This book is a courageous step in that process.”
Jayne Gabrielle, Psychic Counselor and Reiki Master Healer
“Storyteller extraordinaire! Journey of a red soul is captivating and illuminating. Marie’s deeply personal story masterfully brings to life a soul’s journey coming to know its truth. This struck a chord in me… who are my ancestors, what soul contracts have I made and broken, am I ready to ‘remember’?”

“Marie Dion has penned a charming story that brings to life one person’s search for place, identity, and origins.”
W. Michael Gear, New York Times bestselling author of THIS SCORCHED EARTH

Journey of a Red Soul is the story of my life, as told by my ancestors, who showed me how the events and relationships of my current life related to past lives, like puzzle pieces snapping into place: one soul, one journey, many lives. The process of writing the book was a healing, for myself and my people. It is my wish that sharing my story will heal others as well.

Born into an Italian, Catholic family in the 1960s, Marie did not delve into her Native ancestry until she was in her thirties. Although most of her relatives preferred to leave their Native heritage behind, her mother shared her father’s ancestral heritage with her children: “We are Algonquin. You need to know.” Plus, Marie was no ordinary child, and her early mystical experiences, her inexplicable reaction to ordinary things, and her ability to remember realities experienced in other lifetimes set her apart from her siblings.

In Journey of a Red Soul, Marie traces her path of discovery, courageously standing in her Native roots, to share lessons learned in multiple previous Native lifetimes. She deftly communicates her insight into the path of healing from racism of all forms, believing we experience diverse lifetimes as the other gender, the other race, and, karmically, any form we consider separate or different from ourselves. She boldly treads upon our tightly-held beliefs about identity and suggests the ultimate solution: we are all interconnected human beings who need to understand each other and “walk in the other’s shoes.” She considers herself a bridge between the Christian perspective and Native understanding, demonstrating how these spiritualities work together throughout her own lifetime testifying to that very real interconnectedness.
